IG FUEL- Pre & Post treatment of furnace oil
Introduction :
Thefuel available in India at present contains high percentage of sulphur. It is observed that the increasing percentage of sulphur is responsiblefor high rate of cylinder wear. Fuel oil or back residual oils arecheapest fuel oils which contains plenty of impuriies, mainly ofsulphur and vanadium. During combustion, the sulphur in fuel oil isconverted to sulphur which in turn is converted to sulphur trioxide inpresence of vanadium which acts as the catalyst. The small amount ofmoisture present in fuel oil converts the sulphur trioxide to sulphuricacid and the corrosion by inhibiting sulphur and vanadium compound.
